I'd wager kids in general are under a ton more stress than they ever used to be too.

Also, the homelessness thing, I was quite shocked when I found out the States had no requirement to house the homeless. I really do wonder sometimes where American's tax dollars go, because they don't seem to get a huge amount out of the tax they pay.

Yeah, pretty much what Bart said. The Defense Department is a HUGE block of our spending and the only way it gets cut is by fucking over all of the federal employees at one go (see: Sequestration) and even then it doesn't always apply.

DARPA isn't cheap either and the money we pay to prop up werido governments in South America, the Balkans the Far East costs a fortune as well.

And our prison system is super expensive.

Plus we pay a ton of money to keep fruits and vegetable artificially expensive.

The 10 Best Videogames of 2013 - the number 1 game in that list, 'Papers, Please', has just been reduced to £3.74 in the Steam Sale. It would be rude not to at that price...

Personally I have no problem discriminating against anyone telling me what a "good liberal should think."

I've read a little about bad policies like trying to get homeless people "ready" before they're given a place to live, basically in the context of such policies being ended. I'm not sure how common those policies are.

Obese children (yes, as young as 8 or younger) are more likely to be subject to harassment (from their parents as well as people outside the family), so it's hard to identify causality.

I wish more work was done on figuring out how people can become less prejudiced-- instead, the emphasis seems to be on various forms of punishment and shaming to get people to discriminate less.
