Harry really is dumb.

If you think about it - if he'd followed/asked for Hermione's advice in the first four books, they each would have been about 20 pages long.

This is one of the reasons I've always thought she should have been the main character and not the little-christ-metaphor-born-from-asshole-bullying-parents.
