Nothing to do with salary - it's cheap compared to other phones. I don't think you get any smartphones that are usable for much less, and for that spec, there's nothing even close.

By comparison:
iPhone 5s - £550
HTC One - £400
Nexus 5 - £300

Yes, but I wasn't saying "This smartphone is cheap, compared to a bag of chips" - I was saying it was very cheap for what it was.

Otherwise there'd be no cheap homes, no cheap cars, etc, etc. - you compare things to similar items, or the whole English language losing its ability to reasonably compare things.

Now, it's not cheap compared to a non-smartphone, but now that half of the population has a smartphone, it doesn't seem unreasonable to compare them to each other, and see that there's a range of prices at which they are available.

Here's an interesting sciencey rebuttal to the male-female brains thing (or at least the conclusions drawn from it).

Yeah, it's an interesting piece - although I find its conclusions unconvincing. The idea that there would be no detectable difference until 13, and then suddenly significant ones, but that this is because the culture suddenly takes effect, strikes me as pretty unworkable.

But I do agree that the original article also overreaches a lot. And also, uses the whole left-brain/right-brain nonsense which is annoyingly pervasive.
