But match people with the same cancer for age, class, health, socioeconomic status, and, in general, those with positive attitudes, with a strong will and purpose for living, with commitment to struggle, with an active response to aiding their own treatment and not just a passive acceptance of anything doctors say, tend to live longer

Lots of people believe this. Hey, even I have a tendency to believe this. And the author is clearly very well educated. But every nerve in my body is screaming 'citation needed'.

I recall seeing some evidence that one's mental state made no significant difference to outcomes but I can't recall where or when.

Saving the Stephen Jay Gould, as I am a huge fan. A little less Richard Dawkins, a little more Jay-G...

What are the ethics of live-tweeting someone sitting in the wrong seat on the wrong train?

I was tempted to live-tweet Sunday’s journey home but thought better of it.

I was sharing a table with three students (sixth formers or first year uni) who were from Denmark, Norway and Sweden. They were having a conversation in a mix of those languages and English about the difference and similarities between Danish, Norwegian and Swedish whilst tweeting surrealist nonsense to some pals of theirs.

Every so often the translations would break down at very Carry On moments of innuendo.

“I would like to, damn what’s the word, like lick but not… No hang on, I enjoying licking… tell me again in Danish. I want to suck… What is ice cube in Swedish.”

And so on.

I was doing my best to pretend that I couldn’t hear them but eventually I just looked at them and raised my eyebrows which caused them to pretty much wet themselves laughing.

I’m pretty sure by the end of it they were doing it on purpose.

If they didn't copywrite that word I am totally using "Whorephobia" for my next blog post for the male escort review site.

The first commercial tDCS headset that lets you safely overclock your brain

This sounds like tinfoil-hat nonsense. Is there any real science to back it up, or is it just geek boys attaching electric current to their skin and proclaiming "I'm a CYBORG!"?

"Overclock" is nonsense, but it's been getting increased exposure over the last few years:

Check out the citations on that page for a bunch of scientific research in the area.
