I can't decide about this. I can imagine legitimate reasons for owning a gun with a variety of visual impairments. Most for sport in a closed environment, but theoretically for self-defence. Even if you're completely blind, I imagine someone extremely well trained to emergency situations and trained to shooti by sound when completely blind are considerably safer than many untrained people shooting with full vision ( ... )

Securing wifi seems like double-or-nothing. If you don't, you more often get hassled for minor crimes. But if you do and someone breaks it, it's more likely they're going to the effort of committing a major crime (or framing you), and good luck explaining to a jury that "sometimes encryption is broken"...

Maybe instead of all-or-nothing, routers should make it easy for people to allow or deny specific computers access to the network, you bring up a web-page saying "alice's laptop, alice's smartphone, and 3V3's H4CKINGGODKIT would like to connect. Allow?" :)

I wouldn't blame Iowa for the gun thing. Denying someone something that has legally been considered a general right based on their disability status violates any number of federal laws.

The reason they can deny driver's licenses is that no court has ever ruled that there is a basic human right to drive.

But multiple courts have ruled that there is a fundamental human right to own a gun, so you'd be breaking the law to deny gun ownership on that basis.

Very scary technologically incompetent cops story - although at least it had a happy ending. I was half expecting the next episode to involve them finding a photo on the computer of himself in the bath as a toddler and busting him for child porn.
