I think the take-away point is "once you get out to 10 days the accuracy is so bad that rounding errors are enough to produce completely different results".

I think a few things are happening with that history of technology. The history of many technologies is shockingly short (Materials Science as a discipline, for example), and the history of history of anything except the soap opera lives of oligarchs is shockingly short ( ... )

It makes sense: cons have a whole lot more experience with the real world than college students who haven't been there yet.

I've never done the work to flesh it out, but I have a hypothesis that the United States is the most Protestant country. There is a belief that the fate of the universe hinges on individual choices and actions. Some of the historical roots are obvious, but it's so much a part of the culture that it's unnoticed.
