I should thank supergee for the link to the woman who sent a dick pic to the offender's mum.

And not just because Graham Linehan retweeted it and it's had 4,800 clicks on Twitter so far. Also because it's funny as hell.

I am delightfully baffled by the recent kerfuffle about Game of Thrones. It’s like listening to a play through a magic curtain that only transmits the sound of the audience reaction.

I hope there I don't have to sit a new GCSE exam on it.

If you want further amusement then google "reaction red wedding" and watch one of the compilation videos of people watching it.

(Not your kind of thing, I assume.)

My speculative fiction tends to be more SF than F. In my youth I was enjoyed a good fantasy novel as much as the next person but got a bit out of the habit ( ... )

Yeah, if it's not a direction you're focussed in then I totally understand that you haven't engaged with it. It's not like there's a shortage of fiction that you actively want to read.

Should you fancy the TV series then I can lend you the Blu-Rays of the first season.

I thought the point of Police Commissioners was that they could have influence over the Chief Constable. This sounds to me like the policy is operating as intended.

As to whether it ought to have been designed that was - that’s a different question.

Yes, the PCC is supposed to be responsible for appointing the Chief Constable but you don't just demand someone resign within a week of starting your new job. If the PCC feels the CC is not doing their job then there should be a process to go through. I suspect there is some history of bad blood here which we are not privvy to. You don't walk into a new job and threaten your highest ranking employee within the first week.

Fair comment.

On the other hand, if the PCC was, for whatever reason, certain that they couldn’t work fruitfully with the Chief Constable then it might be better to get rid of the them sooner rather than later.

I’m thinking of a scenario where the PCC whilst still a candidate had suggested X, Y and Z to the Chief Constable and the Chief Constable has said, “Over my dead body!”

Thanks especially for the one on that Texas case.

If the terror threat were nearly as ever-present and dangerous as various governments and portions of the media claim, such surveillance might possibly be justified.

Regrettably, it is not.

Also, you should read 1984. I quite like it.
