Comments from fan fic readers have been, basically i) why pay for something you can get for free and 2) unless Amazon includes a preview (and warnings) they aren't going to buy fan fiction on spec when they can go to fanfic.net or AO3 and actually have a backbutton!

Excluding porn (and, I suspect, gay romance), crossovers and torturefic, mpreg and Alternate Universes and realities will drastically reduce the number of fan fictions available.

The comments from fan fic writers have been almost non-existent so far, which does not reveal a high level of interest. Nor was 50 Shades anything like the first fan fiction to have its numbers filed off. I can think of one Silver Dagger winner and one Hugo winner for starters.

I have yet to hear from any fellow fanfic writer who thinks the Amazon thing is a good idea/something they'd sign up to do. Everyone has different reasons for disliking it, from philisophical dislike (there's a lot of "Why do we write?" conversations happening right now) to "That is a really crap contract" and a myriad in-between. It's quite interesting.

The contract is very similar to most work-for-hire media-tie-in contracts, except that the profit share is a lot higher, and there's no up front payment.
