I managed a total of two years on instant coffee since my filter machine was put in the attic and it just taste right mainly due to additives to make it look the right colour. Instant coffee is better than those instant teas you get they're really bad.

Now I'm back to Italian roast filtered coffee. I really need to find somewhere selling old mature Java beans (just about the strongest but mellowest coffee I've ever had) and then I'll get the electric grinder out again too. Oh, and I keep meaning to replace my espresso machine at some point as the last one died ages ago.

Oh I also drink tea but prefer it to have steeped in a pot rather than tea bag dunking antics. Oh and I have a separate pot for gunpowder teas that has a built in infuser. I liked Assam and Darjeeling mainly but if using teabags I was brought up strictly Tetley.

I can never hear the words "time passes" without mentally appending "... Thorin opens the door".

I was really bad at that game.

I always always got stuck at the bit where you (and sometimes Thorin) are stuck in the goblin prison cell.

I had a text based adventure game for my Dad's Spectrum where we always ended up stuck in a prison cell, it was obviously a popular problem :)

"I email the owner ... I casually mention that I’d recently bought some gift certificates for some friends and now we’re all too uncomfortable to use them"

Does she not understand how gift certificates work? That's not threatening, that's "yay free money".

Instant coffee is the work of Satan and I refuse to have it in the house. The only acceptable coffee making methods are either an proper expresso machine or a stove top pot. Anything else is wrong and / or AmericoFascistCommieEuropean. Or something.
(We take coffee very seriously :) )

D'oh. For some reason I can't edit the comment. You are of course correct in that it should be 'Espresso',/i> not 'Expresso". You're inner pedant can stand down now :)

x and s are right next to each other on the keyboard, so I'm sure it was just a typo...
