I think that article on the feminist author getting asked about baby weight when simply trying to pitch articles to sell their books reveals why Bret Easton Ellis and James Ellroy, both very nice men in person, have resorted to being complete and total dicks in every article/interview they do with the media. They are just so tired of their actual reasonable ideas getting shot down when they pitch articles that they've said "fine, if publications are going to be absurd assholes, I'll just be an even more absurd asshole ( ... )

I did not recognise Cape Town at all in Dredd. No sense of place remains. But now that it's mentioned, some qualities of the covered freeways and vehicles, of the light in big, dirty buildings do seem to match with South Africa.

My first thought on the Project Eternity Kickstarter was "with all those hit games and awards behind them, what do they need a kickstarter for? They should be able to get regular investors".

However I think they answered that well.

Yeah, it's like Point N Click Adventures - you'd think people would be able to fun the occasional one or two, but all of the publishers want something mainstream.

The people who want to play the game pay for it, but in advance. Disintermediation, innit. So the makers don't have to answer to the middlemen this time.

Eternity got $1.3m in TWO DAYS?!?! Wow, that's some Kickstarter. Don't think I've ever seen anything take off that fast.

The Ouya did it faster, but that still puts it near the top!

Huh. I thought I remembered that after some previous fuss, the Sun had stopped page 3, but apparently not?

I was also amused by the description on wikipedia that "some conservative groups claimed it was soft-core porn". Well, duh. I mean, seriously, some people think there's a reason to put pictures of naked random people in the paper every week other than titillation? The question seems to be "is soft-core porn a bad thing"? Well, no, but maybe if they claim to be a general newspaper, they should have to post pictures of all sexes, not just women? :)
