Delayed by an hour today because the Delicious RSS server was down at the original posting time. Nice to see that my system recovered from it perfectly!

(Yes, I'm always amazed when my code works.)

So I clicked through on the muira-paperfolding page, and went hrrmph, the real question with maps is why people don't print them on Tyvek... only to discover that as well as having a Better Fold, their map is printed on Tyvek.

For years, I've observed that the walking maps of the Lake District are designed to maximise map sales; printed on cheap paper, with the break point between the separate maps bang in the middle of the area, so if you're walking in the central lakes as most people do you need to buy *four* maps. They sell laminated versions -- but laminated is much bulkier than Tyvek.

Yeah, I grew up walking in The Lakes, and we always had to have multiple maps, which were always awkward to use.

That video of sodium being dumped in the lake is awesome. I've wanted to do that since I was at high-school.

Even in the 40's there was no good reason to dispose of it in that way. Sodium is expensive to manufacture and easily stored under oil. I suspect those scientists just disposed of it in that way because they too always wanted to see what would really happen.

It does seem weird they wouldn't just dump it into a big vat of oil and leave it there.

The sodium video wasn't on the page when I clicked through, so here's a link.
