About 20 years ago The New York Post ran the headline "Headless Body In Topless Bar."

I still think that is the best ever.

Second best: After Elton John's marriage The Sun went with the headline: "Elton Takes David Up the Aisle."

My favourite headline today is from the BBC:

"German pensioner eats 64-year-old US lard"

The best one on the Daily Mail website today (but not in the newspaper) is this one:
"Teacher who 'spoonfed semen to blindfolded children' was investigated in 1994 over 'groping 10-year-old girl'"

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2095742/Mark-Berndt-Teacher-spoonfed-semen-children-investigated-1994.html?ITO=socialnet-twitter-mailonline

And people wonder why this is the most popular news website in the world...

Competitive but I would still go with "Gordon Ramsey sex Dwarf eaten by badger"

(here with slightly different headline)

For me it beats their previous high or "World war 2 bomber found on moon vanishes" (Their unique way of retracting their previous "World war 2 bomber found on moon" which was proved not to be the case)
http://panpa.org.au/2011/04/06/daily-sport-goes-missing-not-on-moon/

Disappointingly though the dwarf story must also lose some marks for being largely fictitious.
