It should be totally obvious to me that commercial software back then was made with these limitations, but it nonetheless seems astounding, and shocking that people were working with such crap :/

Yup. It does amaze me how long version control software was crap for. I can understand distributed VC taking a long time, because of the bandwidth and space considerations, but things like transactions and merging seem pretty obvious!

apparently my programming.. thing [Computing for Engineers] is next semester.

I am utterly dreading this. I absolutely expect not only to fail the unit, but to fail so horribly that I have to max out on everything else just to make it through the year.

legend has it the programming lecturer is so bad that 103 students walked out of his first lecture after 10 minutes.
