A world divided?

Now, I'm sure you're all well aware of the Madeline McCann saga, and it's various stages of ups and downs over the past few months. I'm wondering, however, what your feelings about the whole thing is. It seems you're in one of two camps: you support them, or you think the parents are involved in some way. Personally, I tend to veer for the latter. ( Read more... )

We need a selective parents bill.

I've always said that idiots shouldn't be allowed to breed, man.

The papers here are saying the case is 'collapsing' - but this surely is only because the McCanns have had their PR machine going. Like you i tend to think they had some involvement but I am trying to remain open minded.

One final thing - and this is going to sound incredibly heartless - I am just tired of the whole tragic, sorry and UNNECESSARY affair. What kind of idiot leaves their kids alone, several hundred yards away (with a swimming pool in the way) when the hotel has bloody creche facilities?

I completely agree, J. It seems - at times - the parents have been more obsessed with PR and column inches about them as opposed to finding their daughter. They'll claim it's to keep the issue alive, but, I don't know... doesn't seem quite 'right'.

I'm pretty much of the same mind as you. I never voiced it, because it was just an unsupported suspicion, and I really didn't like the idea of believing the two parents could be involved somehow, especially if I was wrong.

However, with recent discoveries, (ie. the DNA which was found in a car which the McCann's had rented 25 days after Madeline went missing) just made it more of a possibility than a simple suspicion.

And then I heard that the parents also used to give their children sleeping pills or inject them with something. Considering they are both doctors I doubt it's difficult for them get a hold of such things, and possibly Maddy overdosed? 25 days later they retrieved the body, in a rented car, from wherever they put it???

I dunno, I guess it was always the the almost calm I saw of them on TV which made me wonder. I never saw strong emotions from them. I'd much rather that this is all just suspicion. I don't like the idea that parents could do these things, especially parents with other kids too.

I agree what you said about it not being a nice thought about the parents being involved, but there are some sick people in the world, and sadly, sometimes, these things do happen..

It has made my skin crawl from the first. I feel that they have drugged the children, hid Madeline's body and covered it up.

If I am wrong, then fair enough, but as a parent, this is not right. It does not add up. You simply would not leave your children (and I had thought it was just Madeline, so I'm even more shocked that it was all 3!) alone so far away.

I can't even go to my neighbors when my kids are in bed, anything can happen. What if they get sick? What if they fall out bed? What if they wake up screaming because they had a nightmare? Its a hotel room, what if they went into the bathroom? What if they turned on the heater, the kettle?

Plus, I don't know how they could have been so relaxed that the children would sleep without problems on holiday, I know very very few kids who would sleep through.

Exactly. There are so many possibilities involved that it's insane to leave young kids alone at any time, anywhere! Kids will get hurt - it's what they do, after all.
