Lecturer Strike

Yesterday representatives from AUT and Natfhe unions met with the The Universities and Colleges Employers' Association to negotiate a deal to end the marking strike. The unions rejected an offer which consisted of a 12.6% rise in pay spread over three years. 12.6%! That's a huge increase and well above inflation. I hope the National NUS council ( Read more... )

That's only actually a 4% rise yer year, then. Still well above inflation, but less impressive when you think of it like that.

I see no reason for the NUS to _ever_ have supported the strike. Its most definately not in the students best interests.

I do find it disgraceful that students (particularly undergraduates) are ALWAYS targeted in these disputes (the idea being, I suppose, that Mummy & Daddy who apparently pay all the fees will sit up and take notice that their little darling is in danger of not graduating & put pressure on the Uni too - legally & financially. i.e. it makes a bigger media splash ( ... )
