We've talked about Harry Potter phenomen in one of my classes today. Unfortunately it wasn't with my crazy and open group, but with the more judging, saner group. So I had some painful reality check. And I kept myself to mostly mubling quietly and by some dumb luck I managed to get a seat in last row, so only few people around me looked weird at me ( Read more... )

So what did they have to say about it? Most of the people I meet (outside of the internet), when the topics come up, are pretty enthusiastic :)

Oh, you know, how it's ridiuculous some people got so obsessed with it. How it's just a book and it's sad people are so into it. One guy mentioned his 22 year old friend, who says he's a Gryffindor and isn't that pathetic? (As in talking about being in one of the house, not as in being a Gryffindor. ;)) Most of them haven't even read all the books and just talked about it as books for kids, simple and obvious, with good and evil clearly seperated and the plot obvious from the start. And don't get me wrong, I'm not going to protect Harry Potter series and claim it's the best thing ever written, because it isn't, but it's not as simple as they made it sound. (Luckily on that point few people actually agreed with me.)

And, you know, I may be over my great pottermania, but I still tend to ask people which house do they think they'd be sorted into, because the way they answer tells me plenty about them ;D

It's always so shocking to me when people say they read HP and it's only and just a book, and that they'll read their children something else because it's better than HP.

I know right? I'm shocked and at the same time I feel sad for them, because they're really missing out on something great here.

Poor muggles. ;)
