I saw your response to my post, so I'll comment here instead of over at mine. I see you're caught up now with the episodes too.

I've watched 1 and a half episodes of Cumberbatch's Holmes, and while it's good enough I suspect being an American I can identify more with Elementary, simply because Jonny Lee Miller doesn't portray Sherlock as deeply affected as Cumberbatch does. For example, his acting choices in the one with the Hound of the Baskervilles where he's admitting he's scared? Completely threw me out of the episode. He was "chewing the scenery" as we say. Overacting a bit too much.

I prefer JLM's toned-down yet still idiosyncratic Holmes. He's still twitchy and anti-social and annoyed when people don't follow his line of reasoning, and it's completely believable. Nothing against Cumberbatch, but I think JLM makes for a much more believable Holmes.

Regarding Watson and having a military career, remember that there are no female US soldiers in front-line combat. She wouldn't be able to, as you put it, Someone who saves and ( ... )

Well, technically speaking Watsons are war surgeons not actual soldiers. They accidentely get caught up with actual fights. And I still think that taking war from Watson is taking a great part of her character. But the writers are getting better with her, so I'm not gonna complain too much.

I really like that show, but for me BBC version is the perfect adaptation. *shrugs* I guess I just like Britts more XD
