I just let Renovation -- 69th Worldcon -- know that I won't be attending after all. Given the house situation, spending that much money would be irresponsible. Also, being away while work is being done would mean that I'd return to a yurt and confused cats. Fine, control issues are the real reason I'm staying home, not the money. Happy ( Read more... )

Dome homes are remarkably stable (think bucky balls). Of course, if zoning is an issue - "All houses must look like a traditional clapboard farmhouse" - then there is nothing you can do. They look kinda weird.

Now that's interesting! (Eyeballing roof of geodesic dome part...do they tend to leak in 80 mph winds with driving rain?)

Dome homes are awesome! There are a few companies selliung them pre-fab. A volunteer crew and a builder could get it up quickly... Or just a clueful volunteer crew.

House comes first, especially in northern climes. You need to be under roof before snow flies. I don't know anyone (including me) who doesn't have a contractor story, so I know it's best to keep a close I on them. Introduce yourself to the building code. Knowledge is power.
