You're not the only one to have their foot go "ow ow ow" of late...and I had a devil of a time convincing him it was more than "just a sprain".
Do get it looked at when you can, use crutches to limit pressure. From what you described possible for a crack in a bone, or even a bone chip. You may find the foot going all kinds of darker colours. (That's the soft tissue damage.)
If you can, sleep with it elevated, as that helps keep swelling down, and limits the throbbing pain so you can sleep better.
Failing that...as I explained to the other fellow...I'm just adding a hack-saw to the medical kit for on site. Plus a nice supply of rum just in case.
