away with the boys in the band

Yo internets, I'm on my cousin's tiny wee netbook and half-watching Top Gear, because she and all her flatmates are at Uni being actual adults with a life plan.

SO, MYCHEM. The travel stuff was something I was completely freaking the fuck out over, because DDDDD: TRAINS. BY MYSELF, and my parents were torn between wanting to comfort me and telling me to buck up, blah blah you're twenty-one, WTF is wrong with youuuu, but in the end it was absolutely fine :DD (except for the part where the ENTIRE BELGIAN TRANSPORT NETWORK WENT ON STRIKE and NO ONE TOLD US until Dad phoned in from work, so my poor cousin had to wait for THREE HOURS at the station for me /o\)

We missed the first support act, who are apparently called Lost Alone, but we caught The Blackout, who at times had such an epic bass line that it felt like a physical thing pressed into my throat : /. I know one of their songs, and they were okay, although I do get bored of the whole Scotland/England thing, especially when the dude insulting the English is Welsh. *eyeroll*

ANYWAY, BAND. We started off severe Ray-side, but since the majority of the crowd were actually twelve (me & cousin: D: So when TBP came out you were like, seven, and when MCR started you were a toddler) and adorable baby emo kids with their mothers in tow (seriously. I think she was really fucking brave/sweet to come into the crowd with her daughter, but in layers, with dangly earrings and a handbag?), we moved round and by the end were thisclose to the barrier and smack bang in front of one GWay <333.

They didn't do "Sorrows" or "Ghost" or "Kids From Yesterday", but Gerard did sing Happy Birthday to Grant Morrison in a very Marylin Monroe-ish kind of way (ie. dragging out the notes and sweeping his arms out), which made me coo stupidly. Also, I think I may have spent most of the time not singing beaming like a moron, because ♥baaaaaand♥. Mikey and his fab sparkly bass; Ray and his general awesome; Frank with his cardigan on for the whole concert and his brief lean on Gerard during "Vampire Money"; and Gerard with his flaily hands and spread fingers, and his happy little smirky faaaace and his pink eyeliner also smeared under his jaw. His new hair suits him: he can still headbang with it, but also it's short enough to end up in crazy styles when he runs his hands through it. <3

Cousin reports that before we moved NO ONE behind us was doing ANYTHING, even to the DD stuff, which *hands*, and also that when she went in earlier to buy her ticket the tiny babies who'd CAMPED OUT OVERNIGHT IN A SKEEVY TUNNEL next to the venue and were all decked out in black TBP gear or bright Killjoys stuff were totally, totally judging her for not being dressed up too, bless 'em. Also, I have never felt so tall at a gig! Though I suspect my two-inch heels helped. Also also, there a little clip show on the screens before the band come on, and while I will admit that the others' pictures were particularly unflattering, Gerard's was the only one that got screams, and Grace confused many. And the kids behind us were at one point debating as to whether Gerard was gay, because "he's American, has a funny voice and is wearing makeup", despite the fact that the dude in question was being projected on a giant screen right next to them with a shiny wedding ring sitting shinily on his ring finger. Admittedly, that doesn't guarantee his straight, but.

Basically, it was an awesome show, as usual, and Cousin now admits that the DD stuff sounds better live than on record, so she now likes it better than she did. \o/ mission accomplished.
