Maggie sat outside her vocal room door, going over her old vocabulary sheets. She’d written the actual Hangeul letters next to the romanized words, trying to fit them all into a head feeling full of everything already. But if she wanted to get along here, this was important. And at some point, they’d probably give her a name - or figure out how to make her current one work in Hangeul - and she wanted to be able to recognize it.
“At least it’s not Chinese or Japanese,” she muttered under her breath, struggling to make the sounds she knew translate into the characters.
“Are you okay?”
She looked up, startled, and smiled. “Yes, Sunbae-nim,” she said, wondering if he was going to teach her again today. One day, she’d have to convince Tina to listen to Kangta’s stuff; he had this amazing voice…. “Just trying to learn your alphabet.”
To her surprise, he crouched down next to her, looking it over. “You’ve got a good start, there. How’s it going?”
“Slowly, but I figure I need it if only to know how to get around this building. Better,” she added. “I know the words, now I just have to know what they look like.”
KangTa stood up again and smiled. “We should get started.”
Maggie checked her watch, and scrambled to put her books away. “I’m so sorry,” she said, getting to her feet and bowing apologetically. “I lost track of time.”
He laughed and opened the door, ushering her in.
