Summary: Make new friends, but keep the old….
Prompt table No question, summer was almost over. Still, Maggie pulled her coat closer around her and ventured out into the courtyard, smiling to see the tree there still looking healthy. Apparently, friends were a good thing for trees, too. He wasn't there, but he had said she could lean against his tree any time, so she took this opportunity and relaxed. She wouldn't stay out long, it was still too cold, but she missed being out here, and she hadn't been able to be out here much through the summer.
"You look far too cold to be out here," a familiar voice said, and she looked up.
"Ah, sunbae," she said, and got to her feet to bow - and only then realized someone had come out with YiXing. Her eyes widened, but she bowed to him, too. "It is cold, but I wanted to visit a friend." She leaned casually against the tree.
"This is my friend and ge - ah, hyung - Zhou Mi," YiXing said, gesturing to the man behind him. "Ge, this is Maggie, who was asking me about Qilin."
"Any reason?" Zhou Mi asked her, his dark eyes piercing.
"Curiosity," she said, because there was no way they'd believe her if she said she'd seen one. "I like legends, no matter where they come from."
YiXing grinned at Zhou Mi and said something Maggie didn't follow, and it wasn't until Zhou Mi responded that she realized they weren't speaking in Korean. She didn't feel quite so stupid for not understanding, and relaxed, letting them have their discussion in peace.
"Do you believe in dragons, too?" Mi asked, and Maggie blinked at him.
"I've never seen one, but that doesn't mean they don't exist," she said, and then blushed.
"So you do believe in Qilin. Unicorns."
Maggie's cheeks went even brighter red. "Yeah," she said. "I do." Their questions didn't make her defensive, either, as if they were just looking for information. "Why? Do you?"
Zhou Mi smiled at her. "Yes," he said. "I believe in Qilin, and dragons. And dryads."
Maggie blinked at him. "Oh," she said, and tried to figure out what to say to that.
YiXing laughed. "There is a lot most people don't see," he said. "Be grateful you do."
"I am," Maggie said. "Believe me, it keeps me sane. But… I don't really understand."
"It's okay," YiXing said, and Zhou Mi waved at her as they turned to go inside.
Wait, what? She was too confused (and more than a little intimidated, because wow, ZHOU MI) to go after them and demand an explanation.
