Summary: A conversation with a solo artist
Prompt table "I don't know, do we get the choice?" Maggie asked YiJae, leaning against the wall, her legs stretched out in front of her.
YiJae shrugged, moving through the choreography herself, much more comfortable on the high heels that Maggie was. "Maybe," she said.
"Do you want to go solo?"
Not even that question, although probably not as out-of-nowhere as Maggie thought it was, made her roommate stop. "I don't have the voice for it," she said. "But I'm working on that. Maybe, eventually."
"You can ask, if it's what you want," a half familiar voice stated from the doorway, and Maggie scrambled to her feet to bow as YiJae did, stopping mid step and still, somehow, not falling over. Maggie wondered if she should be aflame with jealousy, and then nearly hit herself for sounding like a bad romance novel. BoA grinned at them and nodded back. "Are you thinking about it?"
"No," Maggie said immediately. "It's just… no." To be honest, she wasn't exactly sure why she was here in the first place. Well, she had some ideas, but not like her other roommates. Her explanation of "my friend Tina wanted to join, and asked me to go with her to auditions, and she didn't make it and I did" had brought utter disbelief from her roommates, so she'd never told anyone else.
"A little," YiJae said.
BoA stepped in a bit further. "Let me tell you why I decided I wanted to," she said. "You'll have to ask someone from one of the groups about how they feel about that."
Maggie hadn't had such an enlightening conversation - possibly because she could only now finally follow most conversations in Korean - in a long time. She wished she could take notes. Then a thought struck Maggie. Just as BoA stood up to leave - she'd sat down on the floor with them - she blurted, "have you ever…." And stopped before she finished, because the question was personal and she didn't want to make her uncomfortable. "Sorry," she said, and got carefully to her feet with YiJae. "Thank you."
BoA smiled but didn't ask any further, nodding in response to their bows and leaving the room.
Without another word, Maggie went to turn the music on so they could practice one more time. That bit of break made it easier, and Maggie thought that maybe she'd make it through this thing without totally embarrassing herself or ChangMin. Hopefully.
