KwangHaeng rubbed his eyes and sat up, not entirely sure how he'd managed to fall asleep. It wasn't all that comfortable in the boat, although the subject he'd been studying had put him to sleep more than once. Why couldn't they make history textbooks interesting? He'd tried reading it in the boat to see if it would keep him awake. Apparently not.

He sat up and looked around, and tried very hard not to panic. He couldn't see any land anywhere. How long had he been asleep?

He dug into his pocket for his phone and came up empty. No way, he'd had it when he'd sat…. He checked around the boat and found it sitting in the bottom - not in a puddle, thankfully. But when he checked, he had no service.

"Really?" he said out loud, if only because he wanted to hear his voice. "I can't be…."

Except that he could be, and apparently had floated so far out he got no reception.

So not good. He was going to be in trouble as it was, for losing the boat, but then having the bad grace to lose himself…. His parents would never let him live it down.

It didn't occur to him until a couple hours later, when his stomach growled, that his parents not letting him live it down was preferable to not seeing them ever again. He couldn't see any way back at all, and the sun was getting hot, too.

He glared at the bottom of the boat, trying to remember what had happened, but his stomach growled again, and he really wanted to be back home, in the kitchen, watching his mother make him something delicious for lunch. At least, he thought it might be lunch, because the sun was right over head.

This was stupid. He'd been totally stupid, but to have to die for it was the ultimate insult. Maybe not insult… but it felt like one.

He scowled at the boat harder, eyes narrowed. His head was starting to hurt, and he closed his eyes against the sun.

Something made him open them again, and he stared at the… spinning hole thing in the bottom of the boat. It wasn't a hole, exactly, because the water wasn't coming in the boat, which didn't make sense. He stared at it, and then decided that maybe a quick death would be better than a slow one, gathered his things together, and with a deep breath, stepped in.

And stepped out into the kitchen, gripping his schoolbooks and everything else, staring at his mother, who stared back at him.
