It took some doing, but Kippei was able to get in contact with Atobe Keigo. This was not something he could take care of, but Atobe would have some idea of what to do - and how to do it.
It was just past seven when Atobe's limo pulled up in front of his home, and he called a good-bye as he went out the door.
"What is so important that you needed to speak to me now?" Atobe asked as Kippei settled into the seat across from him.
Kippei began to explain what Ohtori had told him, the night of Atobe's New Year's party, and Atobe waved him to silence. "Ohtori told us, when some of his friends wouldn't leave your sister alone," he said, sounding bored.
Kippei nodded. "The reason I asked to speak to you is that I think she might be in danger."
The bored look faded from Atobe's face. "Danger?"
Kippei hesitated. "I have reason to believe that Ohtori's parents are going to try to threaten her away from him."
Atobe leaned forward. "Explain."
"Ohtori-san is not happy about this match between An and his son. He's promised Hosokawa-san that he will try to pay her off, or threaten her to make her leave him. Kamio believes that he is more likely to try to threaten her first."
Atobe's eyes narrowed. "Kamio."
Kippei nodded. "Yes."
"And how did your Kamio find out about that?"
"You probably don't want to know," Kippei said, keeping his face expressionless.
Atobe watched him, then nodded curtly. "You're probably right. Does he have proof?"
Kippei took the email out of his pocket and passed it over. "Akira is certain he'll try to threaten her, but that's from someone very different than you. I wanted to get your view on it."
"He's right, although probably not for the reasons he thinks. Ohtori-san will simply see that threatening her will be cheaper in the long run."
Kippei nodded. "Would he hurt her?"
Atobe pursed his lips. "I think he might," he said. "Anything happens to her, Ohtori is left in a situation he does not want." He stared at the paper a little longer, then resolutely gave it back. "I will take care of it."
Kippei didn't question him. In fact, he could honestly say he didn't care how, only that his sister didn't get hurt. That was all that mattered.
