So, I went and named myself after the country I'm from. Don't I feel silly!

Why is it silly? It just means that your country is very important to you.

Well, when you put it that way, it seems kind of silly to argue.

That's not too bad. I took the name of my family's lands.

[Also her first name, Peachblossom, was that of her horse. Not that she'll volunteer that.]

That isn't so strange; it's not uncommon to call oneself So-and-so of Place, especially if one is of the family that rules said Place.

One's lands are part of one's country. It doesn't seem silly at all.

Not when one thinks of oneself as possessing the country in any significant way.

I do not think it is particularly silly.

If I am not being too bold, why did you choose Cephiro--before you knew its real significance?

It was the only thing from my dream that sounded vaguely like a good name.

[ a pause. ]

I was not entirely unaware of its significance, though; I had some ideas of its meaning from context, and it felt like a very large name in any case. I felt protective of it, so I took it for myself.

As opposed to an end table?

This is true!

As opposed to a word like Gum. Or Rock. You do not get anything name-like, and you do not know what to expect.

Perhaps so, although gum and rocks don't have too many ways they could be taken.

This mean you wanna be called something different?

Reply

andcountry January 21 2011, 06:47:45 UTC
Not in particular. Should I? I mean, just because I said it was silly?

That's just the usual reaction I see from people is all.

That would be a pretty major decision.
