I think you've summed up Sara's mixed feelings towards Grissom very neatly. Love this line: He’d told her it was Longfellow, and she’d wished he would just speak for himself, for once.
The dinner scene is just perfect - still miserable, still awkward, and dancing around the herd of elephants in the room. The way the tension finally breaks at the very end of the story is nicely done.
Her brother, startled and quick to shake his head. What? No. No way. They’d told him he could probably become Sara’s legal guardian, rather than letting her stay in foster care. He’d been twenty-two, and the last thing he’d wanted was to be saddled with his little sister.
Oh, I like the possibilities this item opens up. (Though I have to say, as far as characters go, I think I prefer Sara's brother from the "Curtain Call" series.)

Quotes are an avoidance tactic for Grissom sometimes, one that I think would have driven Sara nuts back when he was trying to keep her at arm's length, but still within reach, because how do you talk to someone who will only talk back through other people?
"Curtain Call" is a lot closer to my personal canon for Sara's brother, but it's always possible that he is, in fact, still out there somewhere and one or both of them simply has no interest in maintaining the relationship.
I have to thank you as well for your 'memories' section - I love seeing other people's recommendations, and you had saved some wonderful fics that I would never have come across on my own.

The "memories" function is entirely too much fun. The CSI-doms are the first fandoms I've been involved in where nearly all the action's on LJ, and part of my reasoning for getting a livejournal was so that I could keep track of fic I liked. I'm glad you enjoyed them!
