I've managed to make my way to Cahokia. Its oddly impressive, yet in the middle of a terrible neighborhood.

Its an excellent review of the latest thinking, theories, discoveries about the role of pre-Columbian inhabitants in the Americas. Its a good text to introduce the subject with.
