OMG: Spam Recipe

Dec 18, 2005 11:55

Random link spotted in the top bar of my Gmail (yay for weird RSS feeds):

Creamy Spam Broccoli Casserole

Sounds like something right out of a seventies cookbook. (Except that the broccoli would be frozen.) This hit just about every single one of my poor husband's least favourite foods. . . . So, who's going to give it a whirl?

silly, nostalgia

Shades of college poverty. *shudder*

Yup, but this is too involved for most college students, isn't it? In college I often subsisted on either ramen noodles or egg noodles with cheese grated on top. That and lots of Coca-Cola!

Oh dear Lord, that sounds just...ugh. You know, if you replaced the shredded cheese with Velveeta, it would be absolutely perfect.

Personally, I think I'll stick to cooking recipes that exclude food not found in nature.

That's what it's missing. And the can of soup. With those, it would be perfect!

I'm with you -- I prefer foods found in nature which, I admit, is strange for someone whose childhood was lived in the 60s and 70s.

*shrieks* One of several appalling casseroles made by my early childhood friends' moms (with velveeta and frozed broccoli). Vary it with canned green beans, hamburg [sic], tomato sauce. And *Everything* had a can of cream of mushroom soup in there somewhere.

Cream of mushroom soup -- the pesto of seventies cuisine!

Ok, I have to say, I made pork chops a while back, and dumped a box of the new portobello mushroom soup on them ...with fresh mushrooms and sherry.

There's a big difference between that and a casserole relying on frozen vegetables, tinned meat and cubed cheese-style product, now, isn't there?

Ummmm, sherry!

Hey, my husband would probably *love* this. Except he had to give up spam because of the cholesterol. Maybe he could substitute chopped up sardines...

Seriously.

Not that *I* would make it or eat it, nor would the kids. But he so would! (we all clear out when he's making himself lunch because it's too gross to smell or look at).
