Dear Merry.

This is a wonderful story. I never thought about the massive amount of decision making and packing Frodo needed to do for this move.

At the time I started this I was starting to pack up for when I finished grad school... even now I can't imagine having to deal with more than a small apartment's worth of stuff. :-p

Fair enough," Frodo conceded. "So did you come in here to bother me?"

"No, I came to tell you that dinner is ready. Maybe if we hurry, there will still be some left."

Perfect answer to Frodo's preoccupation :-)

I love this. How hard it would be to just not break down a cry, don't you think?

Strange that you wrote on this subject because I always felt Tolkien made the move seem effortless and almost painless but it always made me feel stressed out. I guess he was gearing up for the journey ahead for the guys and didn't want to dwell on piddling details.

I'm just good like that. ;) Yeah, Tolkien really glossed over some things (and yet he described others in nearly painful detail), but at least that gives us some room to expand on things. :)
