fic: Letting Go 17/18

OMG, almost done!! Hard to believe. The opening scene in this chapter was written before most of the rest of this story, and was waiting for years for me to get the story to this point. I think it was originally a dream, actually, but it's been so long I can't be sure if it was a dream or just a particularly vivid scene in my (waking) ( Read more... )

Thank goodness for Rosie and her common sense (and love for Frodo). And I'm so glad that Sam has come to terms with it and told Frodo he could go. I know he will hang on for Merry and Pippin to come - but I'm so glad that Fatty is there.

They really are doing all that they possibly can to make Frodo as comfortable as possible - that is a comfort. One more chapter to go - it will be hard to read but this is so well written that I WILL read it. I want Frodo to be surrounded by love and to find some peace and relief from his pain.

Yes, Rosie really is a help.

Aww... that means a lot. I can promise that Frodo will be surrounded by his loved ones when he goes. :)

Rosie is such a wonderful nurse - Frodo couldn't ask for better attention as his life and suffering draw to a close. While his terminal condition is distressing, the love of this good family for dear Mr. Frodo is comforting and uplifting. I hope they'll all be together when the end does finally come.

Very moving and well written, as always.

Yes, she is (some of probably comes of having so many children ;)).

I can definitely promise they'll all be together at the end. :)

Thanks!

This is probably the story of Frodo if he hadn’t left for the Havens. The only solace is that he’s clearly loved deeply and well-cared for. I didn’t think I’d be able to read all this but it so lovingly written, I can’t stop. But whew!

Poor Sam, indeed. And yes, they'll be there.

It's very hard to bear, even when you know the end is inevitable (as it is for us all eventually) and even when you know that it will be the end of pain and that there are no regrets. It's hard to read, even with all the love and care being expressed by Rose, by the children, by Sam, by Fatty, by Frodo himself. I started crying about half way through, when Sam came into Frodo's room, and actually I haven't stopped yet.

You are doing a marvellous job with such a difficult subject.

Yes. Very true, all of it. I know it's hard to read (it's hard to live through, too!), but I really appreciate you sticking it out. :) And thanks!
