I hope young Frodo changes his tune after reading the Red Book. Frodo has endured so much. I am glad that Sam insists he be given respect. I just wish that the rest of the Shire would realize the debt they owe Frodo.
This is beautifully written and, though I fear I'm going to be terribly sad as the story progresses, I am looking forward to reading more.

I can definitely promise there will be a shift of attitude in Frodo-lad; that issue will come up again in chapter 3. :)

It's interesting to see Frodo-lad's reaction to Frodo's story and his kinda inconsiderate remark is somewhat characteristic of a young hobbit-lad. Interesting to see Frodo age...that's an important point since with the Ring gone from his possession, he should be aging more quickly know.
How many years post-Quest is this?

Yes, Frodo has aged somewhat more than would be expected for a hobbit of his age (I believe that is mentioned later on in the story), but he also is a much older hobbit ( chapter two talks about his 87th birthday). So, if he's 87, that would be, what, 36 years post-Quest or thereabouts (Frodo-lad is 32, aka old enough to know better ;)).

ahh thanks for the clarification...now yes, Frodo-lad shouldn't have said that to Frodo then-- has he not learned anything from the Red Book? :(
Frodo indeed is older than i thought him to be!

Nope -as of this chapter, he hasn't read it yet. ;) He'll have read it by chapter 4, so this issue will come up again.
