Summary: Stiles cast a spell to find Derek, he just doesn't specify which Derek Hale he is looking for. When he goes back in time, he realizes why he was looking for Derek in the first place.
Notes: I saw a tumblr gif set with Time Travel Sterek and it's been a while I wanted to do something like that, but it never fit. This story is not based in said gif set, I just got the time-travel inspiration.

Stiles is slightly disoriented when he looks at the forest, he is no longer greeted by the white grounds and the massive cold that made him wear two sweaters and a nylon jacket. Instead he sees flowers and the sun peaking through the gaps, birds singing and a undercurrent of power that almost knocks him to the floor. As strange as it is, being dislocated in time, instead of space, with his spell to find Derek, he feels at home, more so than he been in Berkley.

And don’t get him wrong, he loves college; there, he isn’t the awkward son of the Sheriff that always end ups finding dead bodies and getting into the most creep and horrible messes, he is just the average guy, with the not so average grades. He moves from the clearing, looking around for wolfsbane and juniper, to clean away what is left from the magic he performed.

When he manages to cut some wolfsbane and is moving south, to the river way, where he knows he can find the juniper, someone smashes him to the side, making him fall against a tree trunk. It’s a little girl, her fangs snapping at his face and he gasps when he realizes it’s Cora.

“What the fuck.” He murmurs and Cora puts a hand to her mouth, looking back to the person chasing her.

“Mommy says that’s a very bad word.” She whispers back at him and the adult following her approaches them, putting himself between Stiles and Cora.

“This is a private property and I need to ask you to leave.” The way the man glares at him is so close to Derek’s expression that he laughs straight up, while the man looks quizzically at him. “I don’t think being arrested is something funny.”

“My dad wouldn’t lock me up.” Stiles responds and the man glares at him even more.

“I don’t remember anyone at the station having kid your age.” Cora squeezes the man’s hand and he turns to look at her while she whispers her mom says it’s rude to talk to people like that.

“Can I speak with Alpha Hale? I will probably need her help getting back to, well, I will have to explain why I’m here and what should I do while I figure out a way home. ” Stiles tries to look innocent and with the hardening in the man’s eyes, he knows he isn’t succeeding.

“You may speak to me, I’m Alpha Hale.” Stiles snorts and finally gets up, brushing his hands in his jeans, trying to get as clean as he can be after the tumble with the dirt.

“You are the wrong gender, buddy, to be Alpha Hale. Or at least, I need to speak with Talia Hale, if you are the Alpha before her, I meant I need to speak with Talia.” Both the man and Cora have their eyes bugged and it’s so funny to throw them a bit, he figures it’s a onetime thing with any Hale.

“I’m Liam Hale, and if you know about my wife, I can take you to her.” The man, Liam, is probably Derek’s father, which it makes sense with the protective way he keeps Cora to his side, opposite to Stiles.

“Stiles… I think I should talk to Talia before I give my last name.” He feels grown up using Mama Hale’s name, even if he stumbles a bit on it; Liam gives a short nod and makes his steps faster in the woods, using the shortcut instead of the long way they could go on the tracks made by the constant walking.

Soon they reach the house and Stiles can’t keep the awed look at it, it’s a very beautiful house, cream and blue, the paint shining with the sun and a swing rattling on the porch. The house door opens as they get to the stairs and Stiles is smacked with reality of what he did wrong: his spell to find Derek, did indeed that; after all, he didn’t specify with what age he wanted to find Derek.

Talia Hale has a mix of intimidating and comforting eyes, she moves in the living room, not demanding, but exuding respect and Stiles understands better why she been so respected. After the Alpha Pack had been defeated, he had worked with Deaton in every free time outside of school and his homework and he made the choice of reading all the druid archives Deaton and his sister had in storage.

“My husband said you wanted to talk to me and that you seemed to know I’m the pack’s Alpha, but you are not a werewolf and no other pack is nearby to let their human pack members venture alone in our woods.” Talia had sent all of her family member out to clean the lush garden outside and Stiles had been relieved to have young Derek away from the house.

“I’m part of a pack, one that can’t reach me right now and one I’m not sure how to go back too.” He starts cautiously, she may be Derek’s mom and very respected by all the supernatural community, but he is sure she would send him away and make so he didn’t come back.

“And why is that? If you need a place to sleep in, food or money to get you back to your pack, we can certainly help. Or I can take you to the Sheriff and he will manage to send you back to your family through the official means.” As she hesitates to speak the word family, Stiles is sure she understands how packs can be broken, leaving people not only without their blood family, but their chosen one.

“I’ll probably need help with those things too, but I can’t go to the Sheriff.” He is keeping his words short, trying to access her and see if he can trust her; right now he knows it’s been a long way since he just babbled nonsense and irritate Peter, Cora or Derek.

“Are you in trouble? I can try and help you, but if it’s something that it will hurt my family and too big for us to handle, I’m afraid I’ll have to ask for John’s help.” She says his father name with intimacy and Stiles nods, before relaxing in the sofa.

“My name is Stiles Stilinski, John and Claudia’s Stilinski son, that should be about eight, nine right now, I’m not sure what year is this. I cast a spell to try and find a friend, but end up going back in time. ” She smiles for a moment, almost as if she is going to laugh, but then her nose twitches and the whole expression on her face hardens in a frown.

“You do smell like magic and wolfsbane , what spell did you cast?”

“The wolfsbane and the juniper were to clean my body of the leftover magic, but Cora smashed into me before I could find the juniper. I was casting a location spell, near my friend’s house, because it’s best when the floor where you draw the runes had some connection to the person, but I must mixed something up and end up here. ” She snorts and points a finger at him, speaking calmly, but deadly all the same.

“You were trying to find a Hale, we are the only ones living out here and I know enough of magic to know it would only make you travel in time and not in space, magic can’t do both at the same time. ” Now Talia looks a lot with Cora and the way she got pissed with Peter or Derek when they dismissed her.

“Yep, I should know all Hales have a intern bullshitrometer. Well, I was looking for Derek Hale, my Derek: tall, broody, around twenty, maybe thirty, I still don’t know how dog years work for werewolves, full of body hair and rough personality, but the spell thought it would be funny to bring me to young Derek, post Paige I think, if the scowls before leaving the house were any indication. ” Talia widens her eyes slightly and Stiles knows he hit the mark with the Paige comment.

“If I believe in you, and I’m not saying I’m completely convinced, even if you are the spit image of Claudia and not many people know about Paige, why exactly where trying to find Derek if he is your friend?” Of course Mama Hale would try to smother him with protectiveness; he breathes hard at the mention of his mother, knowing he could go and see her, but that would probably fuck the timeline completely, more so than being here.

Before he can answer Talia, he sees Peter approaching them, a mix of somber and smirk marring his face. It’s them that hits him, he could kill Peter here and then Scott would never become a werewolf; if he tells Talia about Kate, she won’t die, no Hale will die or lose their whole family, he won’t have to kill Peter, because he won’t get completely cray cray. When he focus back at Talia she is by his side, holding his shoulders in her arms and trying to make him breath.

It’s been so long since he had a panic attack, that his body seems almost unused to it. He breaths in and out, focusing on Talia’s gentle words, making sure he didn’t look back at Peter’s retiring back. For a few seconds, with closed eyes, he tries to make sure his body relaxes again after the tense moment.

“I don’t know what Peter did in the future, and you won’t tell me or him or anyone here. Don’t tell anyone who you are or where did you come from and don’t mention anything that will happen, doesn’t matter if it’s little or big, we don’t know what can happen.” Talia squeezes his hand and pulls him up with her, making him follow her to the kitchen and them to a spare room. “You stay here and eat that sandwich, there are clothes in the wardrobe and the bathroom is three doors to the left. I will get the juniper and the wolfsbane for you, and after you had some time to rest, we will go to Deaton.”

Stiles nods and pretends the tears that are forming in his eyes are just from a mom taking care of him again and not the fact he can almost see the shadow of death above Talia’s head.
