Corwyn's War Room

Dec 10, 2012 15:21

Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered Leda and her friends had fought their way through the castle, avoiding what trouble they could, dealing with any they could not as quietly as possible.

And now, here they were. The doors to Corwyn's map room stood closed before them, two guards dead at Leda's feet.

Eli ran up to her from where he'd been dealing with a third. "He's in there." he said. "I can smell him." He gestured to the dead guards. "And if he knew we were here there'd have been more of these."

Leda's teeth were gritted, and her right fist was glowing. "Then it's time to end this. I think I'll be polite though. And knock first."

She brought her glowing hand down upon the doors, blowing them off their hinges with a tremendous explosion that sent shards of metal and wood showering down upon, and into the occupants of the room.

"LORD CORWYN! WE NEED TO HAVE A LITTLE CHAT YOU AND I."

Karla
"I like her idea of knocking," Karla said to no one in particular, stepping through the remains of the doorway, Craft at the ready in case anyone tried something she didn't like.

James
"Nice and quiet. Like a mouse in church," James said, crossbow in hand as he entered the room

Blossom
"I was totally tired of being sneaky!" Blossom agreed as she flew in after them and then zoomed up to hover above them. Ready again after a few potions, she had a powered up hair-bow and yo-yo both at the ready.

Corwyn
Corwyn was, as planned, surprised to see Leda. And astounded to see his son. But he was absolutely horrified when he saw who was with them.

"What, have you, done?!" he screamed at the little queen.

A bat-like humanoid creature screeched and launched itself into the air. It was sort of like a mix between a Harpy and a Dragon. Armed, but lightly armored Elves reflexively came to battle readiness, though they, like their Lord, were not happy to see the humans.

"This is the final outrage!" Corwyn declared. "The ultimate blasphemy! You have polluted the True Lands with the Filth of the False Realm!"

Leda lashed out with her right palm in a slapping motion. Across the room, his head rocked back as if with a blow.

"Shut, the bloody, fuck, UP."

"Kill them before they lay eggs!" one of the guards screamed, and they attacked.

Karla
"..."Who's about to lay eggs now?" Karla asked, caught between weariness and sheer 'what the fuck' of that statement. She raised glowing hands and lashed out with Craft, knocking one of the charging guards' legs out from under him. He crashed to the floor, his nose hitting stone with a satisfying crack.

Okay, it couldn't really be heard over the clanking of the remaining guards, but his nose began bleeding and that was good enough for Karla.

She was just going to cling to this wall here a second. You know, to observe in detail. Totally not because she had wobbly knees or anything.

James
James grit his teeth, aimed, and let fly with his crossbow. It flew from the weapon in slow motion, it seemed, floating lazily in the air until it connected with one of the elves in the neck just above the throat of the armor. In one fluid motion he slung the weapon over his shoulder and drew his rapier.

Tired even after the Potions imbibed en route, his eyes nearly burned with fire and determination.

Blossom
And Blossom was going to be landing right in front of Karla, flying monsters for her to fight nor not. "Potion and Ether. And a fruit roll-up. Now."

Okay, actually, she was still fighting. She sent a hairbow grenade at the flying monster as it passed. Not that the explosion seemed to do much other than stop it's flight momentarily, just long enough to shake it's head and make yet another screechy noise. Blossom was going to have to increase the power, wasn't she?

Karla
"I'm out," Karla said, trying not to sound sulky. "Of both." She still had a few fruit roll-ups, though, and she called one in and bit down on it, barely pausing to remove the plastic first. "'M fine. Just not about to fling myself into the glory of battle or anything like that."

Blossom
"You're not fine. Rest a moment." Blossom pulled an ether and a potion from her pocket, handing them back to her friend. "And take these. I have more ethers but I'm low on potions, so be careful."

She threw her yo-yo at the again-approaching monster's head, forcing the weapon to wrap around the monster's neck. Once the string had circled a time or two, she yanked hard.

Karla
Karla downed the Ether, using it to wash away the last sticky remnants of her fruit roll-up. Her Sapphire was practically full up, which meant that it was no longer a drain on her physical body, but neither Potions or Ethers could help fight off the mental and emotional toll that nearly getting strangled had left behind.

She had a feeling she'd be flinching for awhile after this anytime one of the boyos threatened to throttle her.

But that was for later, no time to get mopey in the middle of another fight. Pushing away from the wall (Darkness, she was still sore!) she called in a few throwing daggers and flung then at the third guard. Her aim was indifferent, but that didn't matter. Not with Craft propelling them towards the vulnerable sections of armor at break-neck speed.

Corwyn
Corwyn had only been wearing normal kicking around the dread castle clothes when they'd burst in. Now, with a word, he was covered in his full armor. Complete with the helmet shaped like a human skull, topped with razor sharp antlers.

With an enraged bellow, he swiped at Leda with his massive sword. She parried with her own blade, but the force of it still drove her back.

Corwyn bore down on her, forcing her to her knees. Her arms trembled with the effort of keeping his sword away from her skull.

"It was foolish of you to come here." he growled. "But you've always been a little fool haven't you. Your ancestors would be appalled at how weak and stupid your line has become."

He didn't like that she started grinning.

Leda
What was it Strider had told her? That her true strength lay in her thinking outside the box? She rather thought that it also lay in her ability to make unusual friends. Friends who could teach her unusual tricks. There were spells she knew that could give her extra strength, but she didn't want to use up that much energy just yet.

Instead, she began to whistle. It wasn't much of a bardic spell, but it was enough for her to lunge to her feet, throwing Corwyn back. At the same time she grabbed onto the air beneath his right foot, and pull.

With a crash, he fell to the floor. But his left foot shot out, catching her in the chest and knocking her against the far wall.

James
Lunge, parry, feint, slash. James fell into a dance, careful not to repeat the same steps, as he quickly dispatched two guards and turned for more. "Leda!"

Karla
Karla reached out and grabbed the air, jerking her arm up. The effort pushed her to her knees, sweat dribbling into her eyes. She ignored the stinging and Corwyn lifted up off the floor and then flew up into the ceiling, the front of his body hitting with enough impact to dent his armor. Once he hit, she released her grip on him, letting him fall back to the floor. Why use Craft when gravity was on her side?

"Blossom!" she coughed out. "Make sure Leda's okay!"

Leda
Grunting with pain, Leda pushed herself back to her feet. The leather armor she was wearing under her shirt afforded her some protection.

"'M fine." she gasped.

Corwyn was getting to his feet as well.

"We have to get that armor off him!" Eli said. "It gives him strength."

Blossom
Blossom was already on her way, dragging one of the guards with her across the floor and sending him into the wall next to Leda before checking on her friend.

"Are there latches or something on the armor?" she asked Eli as she reached into her pocket for the Mute Mask that Reno had made her take. Supposedly it would prevent your enemy from casting any spells for a short time... not that it necessarily would work against Corwyn's type of magic but it was totally worth a try!

If it didn't work on the magic, maybe if she threw it hard enough it would shut him up and stun him for a few minutes, at least?

She threw it straight at the big bad's big mouth, fast, then turned back to check Leda's head to see if she'd injured herself in that hit against the wall.

Corwyn
Corwyn had very good reflexes. He didn't know what that thing the mortal animal had thrown at him was, he only knew he didn't want it near him.

He also had very good aim. With one hand, he grabbed Eli's throat, throwing him to the floor. With the other, he swatted the mask with the flat of his sword. Straight for Leda.

She hadn't realized how much she was relying on her magic just then, until she couldn't. Pain flared up from her various wounds, and the glow from her hands and eyes died.

Corwyn's was an evil laugh.

Karla
Karla had two options. The first was to try and make Corwyn regret what he'd just done. The second was to rip that mask off of Leda.

Since Blossom was closer and, presumably, knew how the mask-thingy worked, Karla was going to go for Corwyn. Sorry, Leda. But Karla wasn't in any fit mental state to be much of a Healer anyway. Anger had no place in the sickroom and Karla was downright furious.

"Hey, Corwyn! You gutter son of a mortal whore!" Karla had no problems using his own prejudices against him. "Let me know how you appreciate this."

Karla threw a gout of witchfire at his face--it didn't matter whether he responded to it or not; like Blossom, Karla was only looking for a momentary distraction. Because even as the flames left her hands, she was diving towards him, grabbing his chestplate and passing both her and it through him and onto the floor. She landed with a noisy clatter, getting new bruises atop of old.

Eli
Eli saw the Wyvern diving for Karla even as she went for Corwyn. He didn't know what she was up to, but he knew his father's pet might foul it up.

His eyes glowed, and he launched himself into the air, changing as he did into a smallish Asian Dragon. They collided in midair, claws and teeth tearing.

Corwyn staggered back, as much from shock as any force of attack. That, was not any kind of magic anyone in Faery had ever attempted.

Karla
"Suck on that, asshole," Karla said, pushing herself to her feet, holding the chestplate up for him to see. "Mother Night, it's good to be a mortal."

That's right, Corwyn. Outfoxed by a human.

Corwyn
Nearly apoplectic with rage, Corwyn swung his sword at Karla. He channeled his own version of witch fire through the blade, intending that even if she managed to dodge his stroke, the energy would still consume her.

Karla
Halfway into the armor (hey, why not see if the benefit worked for her, huh?) Karla noticed the incoming attack. She tried to dodge, but the chestplate was heavy enough to foul up her movements and she wasn't at her fastest anyway. The sword struck her shields, keeping her safe from that, but his witchfire was too strong for them to handle, at least in her less-than-stellar state.

The shields shattered and she screamed. And screamed and screamed again

Blossom
Blossom dropped her yo-yo at the screaming and rushed to Karla, sending her a hair-bow at Corwyn and her yo-yo at Karla to try and pull her out of the way. Her flight path had her there when Karla collapsed and Blossom caught her easily, continuing to fly and carrying her away as fast as she could.

Karla
Less screaming now and more whimpering. The armor hadn't protected her at all--in fact, all that the additional strength it was providing her did was keeping her conscious. Karla tried to pull together enough Craft for Healing--she had the strength to do so, thanks to the chestplate, but not the concentration. Burns hurt.

Agonizingly so.

"Momo..." She wanted to rage, to promise to feed Corwyn's liver to something vile, but right now she just couldn't. "Momo..."

Blossom
"/I've got you./" A slight shift had a very angry Blossom flying feet first at an incoming goblin. A small kick meant the rockets in her shoes activated just as she hit him, making his fall messier than Blossom would normally want, but her first priority was Karla right now. The small look she'd gotten at her injuries...

She landed just the other side of the body and set Karla gently down before rummaging in her pockets. "/Potions... potions.../" She pulled a vial from her pocket and lifted Karla's head to try to at least get her to drink some - if she could speak, she should be able to swallow. "/Stay with me Karla. This will ease some of the pain./" And if some of the potion landed on Karla's body, it couldn't hurt.

In fact, the next potion was going to be used to wash the worst of the burns. Her training said to use sanitized water if possible... well, to treat chemical burns, not magic fire burns, but it was the closest Blossom had at the moment.

Anyone else approaching as Blossom worked, got a very highly charged hair-bow distractedly sent in their direction. Hope any explosions didn't interrupt the rest of the battle, Leda

Leda
Leda had always thought the expression 'seeing red' was always just that, an expression.

But a red haze literally covered her vision when Karla's screams reached her ears.

Without hesitation, she reached for the holster at the small of her back, and drew the one weapon that ordinarily would have never worked in Faery. She had had discussions with Triela about just that problem.

She'd figured out a way.

"Not this time!" she screamed in Elven. The blast caught Corwyn in the spine, burning a hole straight through him. The energy blasting Karla ceased abruptly.

Thank you Triela.

Corwyn
Corwyn stood for a moment, blank shock on his face. Almost through willpower alone, he turned slightly to face Leda.

”You…” And then without another sound, he fell to the floor.

Karla
" 'M okay..." Karla muttered, trying to give Momoko a wan smile. "Dun worry. "ll be fine. Jes' gimme a second?"

You keep telling yourself that, Karla.

"Shh. Don' tell. "mma be in trouble."

Blossom
"/Take all the time you need.../" Ah. English... English would be good, yes. "No one will hear it from me except you," Blossom promised, keeping her voice as steady and calm as she could as she unstoppered the next vial of potion and let it gently wash over the worst of the visible burns. "Stay still, okay. I know it hurts. Let the potions work a bit." She'd scrounge around for any left-over ethers as soon as she had the burns at least clean.

Leda
She was joking, that was a good sign right?

The body of Corwyn lay between Leda and her friends. She didn't bother to step over him as she hurried to Karla's side, she simply stepped on him. This wasn't right, this had been Leda's fight, she should have been the one to come out the worst.

She still had her gun out, and looked around quickly to give her friends cover. It turned out to be unnecessary.

Karla
Who was joking? She was seriously going to be in trouble!

Picking her head up-ooh, bad idea! Bad idea!-she turned to Leda. "You get the bastard?"

Leda
“He’s dead.” She told her with a grim smile. "Triela saved the day actually."

Karla
"Good," Karla said, laying back down again with a cough. Ow, yes. Coughing was another bad thing to do. "Gimme a few more seconds--" she glanced at Momoko and amended, “-err, minutes to Heal back up and then we can go save your army. Okay?"

Leda
“I like this plan.” She nodded. “We all want to look fresh for that.”

By the time Karla was recovered enough, Eli had also regained most of his strength. “Let’s finish this.” He said wearily.
