Neoncon: End

Nov 09, 2010 21:55

As it turned out, Saturday was the end of the gaming. Well, almost. I played a second playtest of Tim Rodriguez's card game Meet Your Mecha, a fun two part game of mech building and fighting. I think we had some helpful suggestions for him. So what did I do in Vegas between 10 and 6 on Sunday?

First things first, Hash House A Go Go, that magical place which I apparently didn't post about after the visit for Matthew's stag do. This is even more surprising if you consider that I now consider it to be essential to any Vegas trip.

So, on that occasion, I had the Sage Fried Chicken and Waffles ( as pictured), bacon waffles, at their location on the strip, in the Imperial Palace. There was a 45 minute wait for a table, but it was glorious, especially with a mild hangover. The half of the chicken was fantastic later too, but the waffles didn't age well on our hotel room table. This time in Vegas I actually went twice. The first time was for lunch on Thursday, before the con proper had started, at the off-strip location on Sahara (instant seating, quick service). I had the Sage Fried Chicken Benedict; it was like an archaeological expedition! Layer after layer of deliciousness! Mashed potato, tomato, spinach, biscuit (American-style) bacon, scrambled eggs, griddled mozzarella, and of course, fried chicken breasts, all covered in a chipotle cream sauce. I ate half of it. I finished the chicken later, but the rest of it didn't survive as well.

On Sunday, a group of us from the con went down to the IP location for breakfast. We left at 10.15 and were finished just before 1, of which 45 minutes was waiting for a table and 45 minutes were waiting for a meal. It was worth it. In my quest for a meal I could finish and having spent all weekend eating the cheapest (none of it was) rubbish (most of it was) I could find, I was ready for a salad. A SAGE FRIED CHICKEN SALAD, YO! It was one of those salads with blue cheese, candied pecans and apples and came with a delicious mango vinaigrette (I asked for extra), a biscuit and a couple of fried chicken breast. So good! And I finished!

After the meal, I walked down to the nearby Treasure Island to collect my winnings from the NFL bet I'd made the previous month then walked the length of the strip to the convention hotel, the Tropicana. I had intended to place a few NFL bets again, but I didn't have a good opportunity. Just as well, I would have lost all three was looking at, so that's a $30 profit, in a way.

When I returned to the Tropicana, I sat around the bar area talking gaming and playing Meet Your Mecha for the rest of the afternoon. I could have played a game of The Mountain Witch, but I flagged it due to lack of motivation. I did manage to line up a game of it for OrcCon in February though.

The capstone on the weekend was the entertaining drive back to LA with Morgan. Both of us on a sleep-deprived post-con high as we rolled through the desert deconstructing the con experience. In that spirit, I give you one of the greatest things you will ever see:
