Friday would prove to be the most gaming intensive day of the con. After a late night of Barcon, our room got up and hit the buffet. Much better than that of the Flamingo in 2008 (Apparently I didn't post about my first Vegas experience at all!), mostly because it was a lot cheaper at $10, but also because I wasn't as rough at the time.
I ran a quick game of 3:16 (one planet) to fill in time before the players for Morgan's Inspectres game were ready (I think Sean Nittner was podcasting?). Most of the players hadn't played before, but 3:16 is a very easy game to get at the basic level. The final reveal of the planet was that the "command centre" was a hospital, so there was a hint at the game's theme for the newbies.
I hadn't played Inspectres and in fact had heard surprisingly little about how it actually worked, so I was excited to play it. It lived up to my expectations, even to the point that I investigated buying it immediately afterwards (they sold out of their few copies). I played a charicatured goth who, during play, had the "lover of pop music" trait applied to him. I liked the dice and trait mechanics a great deal (accumulation of successes towards a set end-game total, and establishing traits by rolls in play) and the Big Brother-style "confessional" scenes really make for some fantastic comedy.
I was in two minds about participating in the Houses of the Blooded LARP. I often find LARPS don't have enough going on to fill the alloted time, but after two hours of play, I wanted more, so it was masterfully organised and run by John, Ro and Jessica. The situation was a wedding between a Count and a Baron's daughter and I was the Count's body double. Madness ensued! I was mostly busy making a fool of myself under the influence of poisoned wine, then getting the poison removed and trying to patch up the mess I helped create in the first half! In the final twenty minutes, I was under heavy pressure to kill the real count and take his place, then in danger of having the whole subterfuge revealed to my detriment, then hearing of the Count's attempted murder, and finally dramatically escaping a trial by prostrating myself before the Count as he burst into the final scene seeking revenge! I'll definitely play in a Wick LARP again.
