We have finally arrived in Tokyo for the final leg of our Japan trip.  It's perhaps not surprising that after 2 weeks south and in the smaller cities/towns, the scale of Tokyo needs some adjustment.

Each place we have been to has had its own flavour and peculiarities, but I can say thus far that there are places we've been highly taken with, while ( Read more... )

The moment with the grade 6 students sounds really cute. ^^

I've never really tried Hiroshima style okonomiyaki before. In any case, it sounds tasty....

How do all the 15 stores compete for business? @_@

I thought seriously about how to replicate okonomiyaki back in Perth and to be honest, short of a large hot plate, it'll be hard! It's quite a messy dish to make if you're not skilled. Lots of stirring and flipping.

As for the 15 stalls getting business? There was a lot of "Welcome, please patronise us!" sort of touting as you walk by each stall. There were also a number of stalls advertising English menus. Everyone talks Japanese to me and totally ignores A even when he is paying. Hahaha...

Lol! Poor Andrew. XD

I guess it's hard to get that hot plate flavour without a hot plate. ^^'' (Though you can get those that you can plonk on top of a gas stove.)

On the grounds of Meiji Shrine in Tokyo, there's a stall which has a banner proclaiming that it won first place for its meat croquette in the NHK All Japan Croquette Competition. Is this the same one as you ate in Hiroshima? If not, go compare the two :)

We probably would have tried this yesterday when we were in Harajuku (plan was to visit the shrine as well). But the heavy downpour was more than we could handle. Will see if we can squeeze the shrine in later this week.

If you do manage to make it to Meiji, the food stalls are where the culture hall is (the semi-circular building) - or at least they were there around New Year's...
