sga: Hive ships, Rodney decides, could really use more windows. Windows and holding cells that were a lot more shoddily built. Grown. Whatever. He's getting tired of having to make due as he tries to improvise their escapes.

generation kill: Brad's not used to windows that close, to air condition, to fast food or to sleep. He's not used to living without 4 other guys in his back pocket, to all the space, to the quiet. It drives him a little crazy the first few weeks back, antsy, like he's coming out of his skin, so he gets on his bike and he drives until he hits the Nevada border, and then he keeps going until he reaches Kansas. There's nothing he's looking for in Kansas either, but something about how flat it is clears his head and he loses his wanderlust in a rush.

merlin: The windows arch high above their heads, paned with glass that's only a little wavy. The luxury of the place is astounding; Merlin doesn't think he'll ever get used to it. Real glass, in the windows, like glass is cheap; fine glass, better than anything Merlin's ( ... )

"Of course I know what I'm doing," Arthur says, with enough annoyance in his voice that Eames will take it at face value. It's a half-truth at best, but, well. Theoretically Arthur knows what he's doing. He's just never had occasion to test that theoretical knowledge with real-world experience. Dream-world experience. Close enough. Like their lives weren't already stranger than fiction ( ... )

Ariadne is halfway through slicing the potatoes when the cat waltzes into her house like it owns the place (cats nearly always do) and sits down on the mat in front of the refrigerator and starts washing its face. She's so nonplussed it takes her seven whole seconds before she realizes that, cocksure attitude aside, she's pretty sure they don't have a cat. Unless ( ... )

It shouldn't matter, but it does. It does and Arthur can't deny it. That's the thing about forever mucking about in each other's heads: eventually all your secrets come out, and the more you try to keep something hidden, the more it oozes out into everything. Better to acknowledge something early and then move on. Arthur never thought that a criminal life where he breaks into other people's brains would actually make him into a healthier person, but there you go.

Arthur pours milk over his breakfast and eats it mechanically, thinking, as the light creeps in through the window and across the floor. He doesn't really like muesli, but that doesn't matter. It's what Eames had in the house, so that's what Arthur's eating. It doesn't look like Eames has been home in a long time.

Arthur dumps the rest of breakfast in the sink. He can't stay here. His toothbrush is still in the bathroom, and there's three weeks' worth of dust on the kitchen counter. He can't stay here, but, honestly, he's got no idea where else to look for Eames ( ... )

Scenery flashes by like girls at that last nomikai-slash-speed dating event he'd been dragged to: pretty, sweet, but by and large indistinct. This is like that: rice fields, houses, cables running parallel to the train tracks, all basically like each other. Different in details, but impossible to tell at this speed. Just miles and miles of the swoop, swoop, swoop of powerlines hanging in heavy arcs. Shige can almost imagine they make a sound, the heavy swing of them as they go past. They look as though they ought to--but of course, he's moving, not them, train a shooting star streaking past the orbit of the world ( ... )
