it's interesting. there's a certain way you learn, or teach yourself perhaps, to talk about alcohol consumption. You talk like someone who drinks, but doesn't drink too much. You've had some wild(er) times in the past, but you've calmed down now; you have some fun stories, but you're responsible, and don't drink enough to have a negative impact on ( Read more... )

I think we tend to talk about work when working and school when schooling because it's the 'common ground' topic? And when something takes up so much of your life, you tend to talk about it. I can totally identify with you about the weekends being too short and the week being exhausting. I remember I used to sleep until noon on Saturdays just to catch up on the loss of sleep during the week >.>

Taking work home? DDD: I always tried to avoid doing that, but sometimes it just can't be helped. Don't let it eat too much into your free time!

And O__O about the guy who hung himself. I wonder what drove him to it D:

it's not so much the fact that we talk about school or work, as how we talk about school or work. i'm not sure if it's partially in terms of the structure of the week (set, 5-day; as opposed to college schedules: maybe no mondays, maybe no fridays, maybe only monday wednesday friday, maybe working all day saturday, etc etc) or a feature, perhaps, of the dominant culture of the people working/attending school in the places. But the ways people talked about college at the school i was at, and the ways people talked/talk about high school/my office are drastically different. for instance, i'm one of the most positively speaking people i run into in the office when talking to coworkers about well, working. maybe it's because i've not been there quite 6 months yet and i don't want people thinking i'm about to jump ship, or maybe it's because i had part of that way of speaking socialized out of me during college (where you had drag classes, and you had classes with a lot or too much work (sometimes but not necessarily the same classes), and ( ... )
