I don't know enough about economy or business to not sound like an idiot when I say it, but I like their business plan better. I think it puts more value on the user, and less on some hypothetical corporation they might be able to sell the user to.
other than that, you get more for paid time, though it costs more, so that's only fair. Though you do get rather exponentially more, so in the end I feel like you win there. free accounts are quite similar to lj, as far as I know, though I didn't pay much attention. um. i like it, though i have not done much to customize my journal yet. I feel like i should refer you to roundaboutit to expound on the dw/lj pros&cons. I think in a lot of ways it's nicer to the user, also I like the 'import journal' feature a lot, because now I have like, 2 ljs :D
presumably people who really wanted them were willing to pay for a month of paid time to get the code when they wanted it, and people on the fence don't really care either way.
