“Did I ever thank you for letting me come back?” Jin asks.

“There isn’t much to thank,” says Kame practically. “You know that the fans were all waiting for you. We couldn’t deprive them of you, could we? And besides, we needed your vocals. The voice instructors were making us put in more hours trying to hit all those high notes.”

Jin tries not to pout. “You don’t have to be so unromantic about it ( ... )

Part I.

Premise: It's been years since Ryu and Hayato graduated and life hasn't been kind to them. Ryu went to university, Hayato worked one crappy job after another. Ryu met a wonderful girl and seemed to be going to make it, until everything fell apart and he left everyone, including Hayato, behind. For reasons unknown, Ryu joined a major Yakuza family. Not knowing anything about any of this, Hayato worked his way up to more illegal but less crappy jobs and ends up working for the same family. When gang wars threaten the family, Hayato decides to move into the family quarters. Someone higher up is sent to help him move in.Boxes, boxes, more boxes. How did so much crap fit into such a small room? And to think he'd already dumped half of his stuff at various friends' places because he'd have no more use for it. Carrying a particularly large box, Hayato cursed loudly when he bumped into a side table he couldn't actually see right now. Somewhere between 'bloody fuck' and 'fucking hell' he was reasonably sure he heard someone knock. "It ( ... )

"Look at you now." The last part of his thoughts rolled off his lips before he even realised he had started talking again. "This isn't high school, Ryu, we're not playing delinquent. Shouldn't you be out saving the world, hmm, with those brains of yours?" He didn't mean it, not a word. He'd been so proud when Ryu had made it into university, at least one of them with a fair chance in life. He didn't mean it, but what else was he to say? Ryu had left him behind ( ... )

Part II.

Premise: Despite Hayato's words, only time was needed for him to get used to being around Ryu again. Things weren't back to perfect yet, and maybe they never would be, but Hayato tried hard to forgive Ryu, to understand why he'd done what he'd done. He still believed that walking away hadn't been the right choice, but it was in the past now and he couldn't deny seeing his former best friend made him happy. Settled in, he invites Ryu over for a meal."We should go to karaoke soon," Ryu suggested, tone casual as though there hadn't been any years between them ( ... )
