Did I not tell you that that was the single best thing to ever come out of Discworld fandom? (Not that I've seen much TP fanfic, but still. It would be really hard to imagine anything topping that.)
My only problem was the 'kin kin kin' one, because 'kin' is two syllables in Japanese, so it was wrong. But I appreciated the effort. Then when it was like 'kin kin kin sakura kin' I just about fell out of my chair.

What is 'what goes around comes around' and why hasn't it been shot yet?

I'm glad you went to the grocery store. Wasting away to nothing would be sad.

it's not to syllables. it's still one syllable. it's just two mora. But yes, haiku go by mora, so you're still right--they were wrong. I was kind of confused about the first hiaku in english anyway. because the pattern was all wrong.

what goes around comes around is a song by justin timberlake. For a long time, i was in denial, claiming he said 'my heart bleed, girl' with leveling going on a la AAVE, but. Actually. it's in the past tense, and he really does say 'bleeded' T____T my heart cries.

i was sick of wondering if i should make frozen chicken for breakfast because i had no cereal or bread.

I have to admit that I was confused with the 'to syllables' thing, not because of the misspelling so much as the structure of a sentence including the verb 'to syllable(s)' wouldn't be like that. My linguist brain went off and well, there I go.

My heart cries too. It bleeds even. And it will continue to bleed in the present tense until people can talk about it in the past tense correctly!

I can see how that would be a problem. Certainly it wouldn't be my favorite choice. Pancakes?

EMCHAN I LOVE YOU FOREVER PLEASE NEVER LEAVE ME I WOULD DIE.

pancakes require more work than sticking something in the overn for half an hour, a. And b. would require pancake batter, milk, eggs, that sort of thing. i think not.

so. title?

one-hour challenge~ it's a good time, and you might not get another chance for a while, since you've had timing problems up till now.

See, this is why I'm usually not phased by dodgy Engrish unless it's really bad. The stuff released by native English speakers is often just as bad. I don't know whether that's better or worse than 'the way I are' which used to make me flinch when I heard it on the radio.

i go to my happy place and pretend that 'the way I are' never happened.

That's probably for the best.

JT has often written some dodgy lyrics, grammatical or otherwise. His first album had something like "you're out of the world but you're not green". I swear I burst into laughter the first time I heard that.

"you're out of the world but you're not green"? I'm not supposed to be able to make sense of that, right? Did he really need to rhyme with 'green' or something?

I KNOW OMG ISN'T IT? but where are the chinese translations? Athabaskan? Afrikaans? THERE IS STILL SO MUCH TO DO.

You know you've been at Georgetown too long when you expect Athabaskan to be involved in every compendium of languages.

Reply

anamuan April 27 2008, 15:34:51 UTC
wait, you mean that's not normal? IT IS LIKE. IN EVERY SINGLE EXAMPLE. EVER. but, you know, a lot of them are the theoretical. The only times it comes up in socio is like, the foundation courses, because mostly it was the crazy anthropologists who did research on Athabaskan. Actually. Most of the socio courses are all about english. since, you know. we all speak it.

lk;jalkjfa that long winded distracted thing up there was supposed to bring me to my point, which it hasn't. What i was going for is, i wonder if it's not just Georgetown, but lx departments in general, with the ones who are good at theoretical being even worse.
