I have long said that I've wanted to have worlds in my head, worlds I can write about. Things that I can feel compelled to write about. I like to create, I like to draw, to write, to paint, but as much as I've done it I don't seem to have a fire under me to do it. I don't have to do it, in other words ( Read more... )

I believe it is significant, and that you need a small notebook- a sturdy one- to jot quick notes down upon.

When I started doing that, more and more bits started coming together. I suspect it's because you can't help but wonder things like, "What sort of man would have a name like Graeme Tenderlarch?" As each answer comes, jot it down, and suddenly, you're thinking about so many components that they all start fitting themselves into a story. It's amazing.

This is not the first time a notebook has been suggested to me. I have several, actually, but I don't know why I'm so resistant to carrying them.

Maybe I just forget a lot.

There's an idea -- I can't tell you how many lists of names I've maintained for use in games :)

Names are useful. They can be keys to a character's nature. By all means, write them down and see if you can figure out a world to put under them.
