[ this was inspired by a piece I heard at a recent reading. I think it works very well as a spoken piece -- maybe not so much as a written one. As such, you might want to read it. You know, aloud. ]

[ oh, and I'm cutting it because it's long. Saving f-lists and all that. ]

It seems to be the classic human persuit of looking for happiness from outside the self. I've found a lot of pleasant experiences through acting on whims, like finding a phone number, but the nervousness, the un-surety, seems to be what's really holding the author back from being happy. Hope is worthless without action, and fear cuts deeper than swords. I've been there though, it just didn't help me with getting what I want. I do like the poem though, it flows well, it comes from a real place inside that I can relate to as well, and it addresses the desire that we all have to form connections with each other.
