I am pretty much the same in my approach right down to refusing to wear make up, and it does seem expected but it's just not my thing.

I never needed/wanted to be taken all that seriously at work. Dressed casually and let my work speak for itself. Make up is only for weddings. : )

I always felt that it was better to overdress than underdress, especially on a gig. But I'm re-evalutaing a lot of my little lifelong homilies, since many of them have turned out dead wrong.
