For those wanting to know more about the recent DDoS attacks, yes, it looks like it was the Russian government trying to shut down the dissidents again.

As I said last time, while it's frustrating not to have access, LJ is a lot more than a social network platform. From the article:

VERY interesting post, Anais! I confess I've never used LJ's civic-action tools, or even know a lot about them -- but you linking the DDoS problem to Putin's taking on the dissidents (again!), well, that WAS important to know.

I've always been more comfortable and happy at LJ (even as I'm aware of its Russian links -- though I'd somehow suspected LJ might line up with that government). FB and the other "socials" just seem too frivolous. And, however "social" it may be, Dreamwidth seems that way, too.

Hey, an exchange of scribbles, with nary a mention of...you know.

Well, it wasn't so much me linking anything as deathpixie, but yeah . . . LJ is apparently actually important in Russia. And I'm disinclined to move elsewhere.
