The other night, before I was so rudely interrupted, I was on my way to the market to pick up a few things to make my father's soda bread for work on Thursday.
Yes, you heard me correctly--my father's soda bread

I told my friend (heart-kin, actually), wolfsdaughter, about your wonderful recipies and that she should friend you. She is the one with the just-entered-teens daughter who was suspected of being diabetic. Not diabetic, thank Diety, but numbers are high. I hope she does add you as I think you two would like each other.
Goodness knows, watching the sugars when they're young is important--but it's about as tough as it is important, because kids just love stuff that's notoriously bad for them.
But sure--I'm expecting to be posting some really nice spring recipes here soon, that'll be more carb-friendly than the winter ones (when the carb cravings need some accommodation), so maybe if she watches she can find some stuff that's helpful to her.
I had some Seeded Soda Bread one St Patty's day and fell in love, there's just something delicious about those caraway seeds in a slightly sweet bread...but it seems like the seeded version is very rare/an acquired taste.
I saw a recipe for seeded soda bread and thought I'd give that a try sometime.
My Dad would have none of it--he avoids anything that would bother his teeth at all costs! ;-) He won't even have seeds in his rye bread at this point, so I'm sure he wouldn't appreciate them in soda bread.
I found another one, more traditionally made, but that had cinnamon and allspice and all manner of spices in it as well, and I'm thinking that one might be a suitable substitution for any bread on the table at Christmas.
It's lovely stuff--every St. Patrick's day I remember how much I like it, and a week later it seems my craving for bread melts with the snow and I forget all about it till next March!

Oh, and you might want to try this with it;
butter beer
1 1/2 cup club soda
1/2 cup butterscotch syrup
1/2 tbsp butter
melt butterscotch and butter until bubbly
stir and cool for 30 seconds
mix in club soda
Alternatives,
try lemonade, cream soda, or ginger ale instead of club soda.
Butterscotch itself can be made thusly:
1 c light cream
1 c brown sugar
1 c corn syrup
1/3 c butter
1 t vanilla
1/8t salt
melt
boil until reduced to syrup. [aprox 2mins]
