It's our tradition that we always make each other's birthday cake, and it's never the same one twice. It's fun to think about, it's fun to plan for, and it's fun to do.

This one, however, is probably the wildest one I've ever made for him.

I'd have to say that it took about 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Most of that time was doing the fondant--getting the color all through it evenly took a bit of time and patience.

I probably should have dyed it while it was still very soft, right after I made it, but I didn't think to do it. So it took a bit of elbow grease to get that done.

I think another thing that slowed me down some was that it was very humid here yesterday, do getting everything to the right consistency took a bit of work as well.
