LJ's servers are hosted at SixApart still (though that's changing soon) and SixApart is dealing with a DDoS right now, though they're working with their providers to mitigate that.

I don't keep up on the updates as much as I should, and I know that they had scheduled some kind of an update over the weekend, and I had problems the last time they did that as well...

DDoS?

Distributed Denial of Service. Basically, you round up hundreds or thousands of computers to hammer the server with garbage requests, to where Joe User out there can't get a packet in edgewise. Many of the viruses people allow onto their machines are designed to employ the victim's machine in such attacks.
