If it's any consolation, if you can't bring your computer back to life, you can buy an enclosure for your hard drive that will then hook up to any computer with a USB port. You can then retrieve the files off of it.

Computer trouble sucks, doesn't it?

As long as it's not a hard drive problem. We're not getting any beeps when it powers up, however, so I think it's something else.

Re: The fever - are you hydrated enough? I know it's not even remotely connected, but after I had both kids I was running a mild fever. Nurse said "Oh, that's dehydration. Drink this." After a quart or two of water I was "normal."

(I cheated. My "normal" is in the high 96's.)

Anyway.

About the computer, here's hoping it's NOT the hard drive - but even if it's not, does Belle have a regular backup schedule of any kind?

My "Total Fuckup Backup" is to keep my important docs on GoogleDocs. There's enough security there for my taste, and the upshot is I can do updates at any computer that gets on-line.

Ooh its dreadful to be without your computer.
If you can't afford expensive repairs, here might help.

Freecycle communities are very useful!

Hope Paul is okay.

That would be wonderful and we'd be happy to pay for parts at the very least (if he doesn't mind waiting until I get back to work).

We do want to be sensitive to your personal situation, however, and would feel kind of uncomfortable if we called at the wrong time. Could you ask her to give us a call to let us know what would work for him?

According to her journal, you'll be there tomorrow evening...?

I'm WAH tomorrow, so all you need to do is tell me what would be a good time for you, and we'll be there with bells on...or Belles on, depending on how you want to look at it!

I'll bring Paul, because I'm absolutely clueless, and it'll be a good trial run for him because we have to go to University of Pennsylvania on Wednesday, and he hasn't been out of the house since the last surgery.

Thank you guys so, so much--this is a terrific help.

I find it useful to leave myself positive attitude quotes on post-its or index cards, to help me to stay positive throughout each day.

Here are a couple of my favorite positive attitude quotes:

"He can who thinks he can, and he can't who thinks he can't."
~ Orison Swett Marden

"They can... because they think they can. "
~ Virgil
